Estrogen

Hubby and I did my first shot of delestrogen on Friday - all went smoothly. Since this is an IM shot we did it in the hip like the PIO - I guess some much needed practice for what's to come. We iced first and I didn't feel a thing. It was funny, even though we've done three rounds of IVF and have plenty of experience with doing these IM shots, it was like we both forgot everything. I had to go pull out some old instructions from one of my nurse education classes to remember which needle to use to pull up the meds and which one to use for the injection. Wow - I had forgotten just how big those needles are after only doing lupron shots for a while now!

I also inserted the mysterious estring. For some reason, I was thinking it was a string and not a ring - as in estrogen ring, but that's what it is - a small plastic ring that you shove up your hoo-ha that I guess gradually releases the estrogen. So far, so good - I don't feel it and it hasn't caused any weird side effects, so that's good. We do another delestrogen shot tonight and then I go in on Thursday for u/s and blood work, so I'm hoping I'll get an update on my donor then. If all goes well, retrieval is scheduled for the end of next week! I so hope all goes well.

Also, I don't know if it's just me now - I know others were having problems posting comments to blogger recently, but for some reason, blogger will not let me post any comments to IVF 40+'s blog. I just wanted to tell you that I'm so glad your poor little kitty is doing better. Having two cats of my own, I've been so worried about your baby, and was so glad to read your latest update - sorry I haven't been able to comment.

So glad I never had to use a ring. Patches were weird enough, and I'm tired of putting things inside me!

Glad they're not giving you any nasty side effects, and here's hoping that they make everything perfectly perfect for an embryo to snuggle into!

I can't get over how quickly this has all happened. Just yesterday your donor was going on vacation! Wow!

I was actually in a trial in 2008 for that "ring" (or the alternative, PIO - whichever I was assigned to) but that's when my nasty FSH came back at 22 and I was pulled from the trial before I started. Ugh! What a disappointment!

Glad it's working out for you in addition, I guess, to the estrogen IM shot.

The PIO is getting very old. My left hip/butt side has hurt today all day, very sore. Tonight I'll give myself a shot in the right side.

Good luck with your donor - may she fill a huge basket with eggs for you! :)

Glad you got the IM shot under control - every cycle I think I will remember what to do, but then I have to review. Don't want to be stabbing myself wrong!

Good luck as retrieval approaches!

I don't know how I missed your recent posts, but I'm so happy that you're only a week away from retrieval! Like you, we had a cycle cancelled b/c of high estrogen, and although it was difficult to wait and start over again, it was worth it! I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers your way for lots of beautiful eggs and a successful transfer!
