Transfer Today

I almost didn't write this post because I am "embarrassed" that I'm having a 3-day transfer as opposed to a 5-day transfer like everyone else on here. I'm not really sure why this is the case, but the doctor called on Saturday and said they want me to come in on Sunday for transfer.

However, he said all 11 are still doing well. In fact, 6 are doing great - 3 were perfect at that time and another 3 were nearly perfect - all having 4 cells at that time, which was what he wanted. One was a quick divider and already had 6 cells but he said the ones that are way ahead of the others are usually not your best bet. Then he said the other 4 were still doing well but I think they were still at 2 cells.

So, I was a little shocked when he said we were going to do a 3-day transfer. I asked him why - were the embryos really not looking that good or what, but he went on to say that there is a lot of research out there on whether a 3-day or 5-day is best and you can find good reasons for both. He said since we already had three perfect embryos and three nearly perfect that he felt by today that he could definitely ID the best ones and go ahead and put those back in my uterus rather than waiting. He said sometimes you wait until day 5 just to be able to ID the best ones - whatever! He did say he thinks my uterus will be a better environment for the embies than the lab.

I've read a lot of the research myself, and I have to admit that I am really disappointed that we aren't doing a 5-day. I feel like a loser! However, I'm just going to go with it and not worry about it too much - that's been my MO for this cycle - just roll with it - minimal stress.

But, to try to make me feel better, I went back and looked at everyone's blogs to see if I could find anyone who had success with the 3-day transfer. At first, I was discouraged because you all did a 5- day! BUT THEN, I looked at Brenda's blog - Hope Springs Infertile. If you click on her blog, the first thing you see right now is two beautiful baby boys - and she did a 3-day transfer!!!! So Brenda's Hope blog has definitely given me the hope I need right now, so I'm going to hang on to that for the next two weeks!

I almost forgot that I had gotten fertility socks in the mail several months ago when I thought I'd be cycling with my first donor - I pulled them out, and I'm planning to wear my lovely lady bug covered socks to transfer today. I'm hoping that they bring me lots of luck.

So, transfer at 10 today and then several days of bedrest. You probably won't see any updates since I left my laptop at work - thinking I'd certainly be doing transfer on Tuesday - oh well. The rest will be good - I'm stocked up on books, magazines and movies.

Thinking lots of fertile thoughts for you, ladybug, that you have a smooth transfer and fly away home and that those embies nestle into your uterus soon! XO

If you look at the fertility forums (under DE), you'll find probably half of the women do 3 day transfers with the same success rates (excellent) as the 5 day ones. I think when they feel they have enough information about an embryo at day 3 (and they don't have 20 on the back burner) it makes perfect sense to place them where they belong. One of the many Day 3 transfers on the fertility forum was of 3 day 3's and she now has triplet boys.

You will be fine. Lots of bedrest today and tomorrow (no sleeping on your tummy) and only on your feet for 15 minute intervals. :)

You're on your way mommy.

My doc only does 3 days transfers. As long as he can make a decision which ones are the healthiest, he'd rather they incubate in a uterus than a petri dish.

And although my record of holding onto pregnancies has been crappy due to chromosomal issues, my history of catching pregnant after 3 day transfers has been fantastic. 3 out of 4 transfers have resulted in official pregnancies.

Don't look at a 3-day as a failure on your part or on your clinic's part. Seriously - run with this! I'm so excited for you!

Ohhh, hope all went well, you are resting up and those happy little embies are snuggled in quite nicely
looking forward to reading what's happening.

I also did a 3-day transfer! So far, so successful! And you know what, I was excited that we did a 3-day rather than a 5-day. I believe what your doc said is true: if they embies look good, put them back into their natural environment (ie. your uterus!) rather than exposing them to outside risks in a petri dish. In fact, my reading and research suggests that 5-days are better if you're not sure about the quality and you want to allow more time to be able to select a good one or two embies. The fact that your doc felt he could ID good ones immediately is fantastic news! Be excited! Fingers crossed. Now go rest!

I hope your transfer went great yesterday!

Listen, please do not fret over this. I am on a DE board and there are TONS of ladies that have gotten pg from a 3 Day. Tons!

Clinics vary so much on the thought of 3 vs. 5 day. If your RE feels right about it, trust them.

Be well, sweetie.

Please don't misunderstand the research. The higher rates of success for 5 day transfer are not because of the day. It's becasue of emby quality. When I did 3 day transfers it was becasue I only had 2 or 3 em,bies left...so no need to wait for day 5 becasue we were going to transfer them all. Your Dr. seems to be confident that all your embies are good quality to there is no need to wait and see which ones are the best. He feels they are all good and wants to put them where they should be. That is VERY different than a situation where they are all crappy so they are just putting them back in hoping some are god. Yours is a case in which all are good so it doesn't matter which one you put back.
